Bois-Plage (meaning Wood-Beach) is in the centre of Ile de Ré, along one of the longest stretches of sandy beach on the island. The South-facing beach enjoys sunshine from sun-rise to sun-set, with many water-sports activities. Bois-Plage also has the largest wooded area on the island, with miles of cycle-paths in the pine forest towards Sainte-Marie and Saint-Martin.
A typical fishing village of white-washed houses, it is one of the more authentic villages on the island, well known for its lively daily market. Amenities include a pharmacy, a small supermarket, a nurse-surgery, two butchers, an excellent bakery where bread is baked all day long in the best French tradition, and two post offices. Plus a few nice shops to bring home something that will remind you of the island.
